Central Queensland
Some Great Places to Visit in Central Queensland
Byfield National Park and State Forest
Drive on the beach, slide down sand dunes, and do some proper sandy track 4WDing here. When you are finished with the sandy stuff, head on over to the state forest for a dip in an extremely picturesque creek. See my post on Byfield National Park for more information.
The Rockhampton Botanical Gardens and Zoo
There is a small zoo within the Rockhampton Botanical Gardens and it is FREE to visit. How awesome is that? The gardens themselves are beautiful with a great playground, plenty of walking paths and a decent sized cafe.
Great Keppel Island
Great Keppel Island is seriously under-rated and one of the highlights of Central Queensland. We only spent two nights here but fell in love with the white sand and great walking tracks into deserted beaches.
There is some awesome snorkelling here! Check out my blog post on Great Keppel Island for more information.
Yeppoon
Whilst Yeppoon doesn’t have the beautiful white sand and clear water that Great Keppel Island does, it has the Yepoon Lagoon. A public infinity pool perfect for sunny days. A little further down the beachfront is the Keppel Kracken, a zero depth water park perfect for younger kids.
When the tide goes out, it goes right out leaving a huge amount of sand and shallow puddles to play in. There are plenty of shops and cafes to keep everyone well fed and happy. It’s proximity to Byfield National Park is also a bonus.
