Nestled along the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef, Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast in Central Queensland boasts a plethora of great beaches for swimming, fishing, strolling with your dog and more. Check out what’s on the beach menu in Yeppoon here.
Main Beach Yeppoon
Main Beach Yeppoon stretches over 1.3 kilometres, offering a safe swimming experience suitable for people of all ages and skill levels. It’s one of the best-equipped beaches in Yeppoon because of convenient access ramps, restroom facilities, electric BBQs, and picnic areas. It also serves as the vibrant hub for various coastal events such as Tropical Pinefest and the annual Australia Day celebrations. Please note that dogs are not permitted here.

Farnborough Beach
Located just north of Yeppoon, Farnborough Beach boasts an impressive 17 kilometres of shoreline and is one of the best beaches for 4WD access. It’s a part of ‘The Big Dune Surfing Reserve’ and offers a good beach break. Dog owners will be delighted to know that dogs are allowed off-leash from Bangalee boat ramp south to Barwells Creek, with access via Hinz Avenue. Farnborough Beach is definitely among the best Yeppoon beaches for a long stroll.
Kemp Beach
Kemp Beach is one of the best beaches in Yeppoon for walking, with excellent nearby hiking tracks to explore, boasting lookout points that often afford glimpses of turtles and dolphins in the waters below. It offers a wide expanse of sandy shoreline and includes a rocky outcrop known as The Bluff. Kemp Beach also provides BBQs, picnic tables, and restroom facilities. Dogs are allowed during designated times.
Lammermoor Beach
Lammermoor Beach spans 2.5 kilometres and features casuarina-covered foredunes with a small tidal creek at the southern end. Swimming is best enjoyed during high tide. There’s a picnic area with restroom facilities available at the northern end of the beach, making it a fantastic spot on the Yeppoon coast.

Mulambin Beach
Mulambin Beach extends for two kilometres and is cradled between Bluff Point at the northern end and Pinnacle Point to the south, both of which are part of the Capricorn Coast National Park. You can access the beach with your vehicles at the northern end for boat launching during high tide. Like many Yeppoon beaches, picnic tables and restrooms are conveniently available.
Kinka Beach
Nestled along Kinka Creek and the Causeway Lake, Kinka Beach spans three kilometres and faces east-north-east. The beach typically experiences gentle waves, making it ideal for swimming during mid to high tide. Among the many Yeppoon beaches, Kinka Beach is known for its calm waters.
Emu Park Main Beach
Emu Park Main Beach is a tranquil destination with calm waters. It offers shaded picnic facilities, a playground, and proximity to shops. Unfortunately for dog lovers, it’s one of the few beaches in Yeppoon in which dogs are not permitted.

Fishermans Beach
If you haven’t guessed by the name, Fishermans Beach in Emu Park is one of the best Yeppoon beaches for fishing. Stretching for two kilometres and gently curving northward, this spot is perfect for boat fishing, and there are ample rocks and rock platforms for fishing during high tide. Additionally, a sealed boat ramp and fishing wharf are available.
Keppel Sands Main Beach
Keppel Sands Main Beach spans 1.3 kilometres and faces east, situated near the charming Keppel Sands settlement. Swimming and fishing are best enjoyed during high tide, and picnic facilities are provided. This is one of the best beaches in Yeppoon to watch the day break.
Dogs off-leash
For those travelling with canine companions, Yeppoon and the Capricorn Coast welcomes you! Unless otherwise indicated by signage, dogs are allowed off-leash on all beaches in Yeppoon before 8am and after 4pm (excluding public holidays and weekends).
During the daytime, you can enjoy off-leash access at Farnborough Beach, Yeppoon (from Bangalee boat ramp south to Barwells Creek via Hinz Avenue), and Emu Park Main Beach (from the beach access 150 meters north of Bell Park to Tanby Point with access via Hill Street). Please note that dogs are not permitted on any beach adjacent to Byfield National Park, but plenty of other Yeppoon beaches will welcome them during certain hours.
