WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo Has Welcomed The Final Koala Joey of 2020!
The emergence of the newest koala joey was cause for celebration at WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo last week. Fresh out or mum’s pouch is the adorable eight-months old koala joey named Sapphire!
The joey’s name was unveiled in an exclusive event hosted by the excited ZooKeepers, with pink decorations, native flowers and a koala-decorated blackboard.
”Sapphires are precious gemstones and we consider our koalas to be particularly precious, especially given the threat to their population,” said WILFE LIFE Sydney Zoo HeadKeeper, Renee Howell.
The name Sapphire was carefully selected by the team as it represents her importance to koalas and the zoo.
”As the newest addition, she will make a fantastic ambassador for her species and help educate guests on how they can better protect Australia’s iconic koalas in the wild,” Howell said.
Sapphire will spend the next four months cuddling her mum Scarlet before venturing out freely on her own to play with the other joeys, 11-month old Jasper and 12-month-old Ilani.
Guests can choose to get up close and meet Sapphire, Jasper and Ilani in WILD LIFE Sydney Zoo’s Koala Photo experience, available daily for just AUD $25 for 2 people with photos included (not included in admissions entry).
