The Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden in Singapore
The Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden is one of the best free activities for families in Singapore!
It’s the first garden in Asia dedicated to children and it aims to educate and instil a love for nature in children with the theme of “Life on Earth Depends on Plants”. There are plenty of opportunities for adventure, exploring and learning. The kids can choose to be an adventurer, naturalist or gardener for the day and follow along carefully curated trails.
Mine chose to be adventurers!
Adventurers can cross the suspension bridge, find a cave, play in the treehouse, navigate a hedge maze and zip along with a flying fox.
Naturalists can find the lookout point, explore the stream, enjoy the pond, zoom on the flying fox and explore the nature play area.
Budding gardeners can join in the potting garden, visit the farm garden and check out the fruit orchard.
There’s also a water play area for the kids so don’t forget their bathers and a towel!
There is an entry gate with on-duty staff making sure only adults with kids enter. If you wish to check out the gardens without kids in tow, you will need to seek permission from the service desk.
As an added bonus, the facilities here are really clean and kid friendly with toddler sized toilets and sinks.

The Tai Hoe Hotel is great for those on a budget and is conveniently located next to a shopping centre and MRT station. The downside is that the rooms are really small. The staff are really friendly and go out of their way to welcome kids.
Those wanting to splurge should head to the Raffles Singapore. Not much beats their legendary hospitality.
