The Baby Penguins Have Hatched at SEA LIFE Melbourne
It’s baby penguin time! The Gentoo penguins at SEA LIFE Melbourne have welcomed several beautiful, fluffy chicks with open hearts and flippers.
Hatching just before the aquarium reopened to the public, the baby penguins are being cared for by their doting parents, with daily health checks by the dedicated penguin carers at SEA LIFE Aquarium.
This year the aquarium has some first-time parents, with Zeus and Roger taking to parenting enthusiastically, as well as foster parents Mouse and Lamington who are also doting on their new bundle.
Families will be able to spot the baby penguins on the pebble nests, cuddled up cosily under their parents.
Sarina Walsh, Bird Manager at SEA LIFE Melbourne, says that Gentoo penguins are known for their playful and curious characters, so they have decided to let the chicks ”penguinalities” shine through before choosing their names.
SEA LIFE Melbourne reopened to the public on 13th November and is looking forward to showing families the new fluffy penguin additions as well as providing visitors with an uplifting experience jam packed with entertainment, education and conservation.
To ensure the health and safety of visitors, all guests are required to book online to ensure capacity restrictions are followed. The full list of health and safety measures can be found here.
Of course, SEA LIFE Melbourne has much more to see than penguins! Expect to see mesmerising jellyfish, sharks of all shapes and sizes, thousands of tropical fish, a massive saltwater crocodile, rays, turtles, sea-horses and many more sea creatures.
