Cairns Family Accommodation – Best Value for Dollar!

Here’s why the Cairns Central YHA is the best value Cairns family accommodation around!

With the Great Barrier Reef on your doorstep, the Cairns Central YHA is conveniently located to explore Tropical North Queensland and is an ideal accommodation choice for budget-conscious families.

Cairns Central YHA offers clean and air-conditioned family ensuite rooms ideal for budget-conscious travellers … or those families that just wish to save their hard-earned money for the really fun stuff … like getting out on the reef!

Come with us as we take you on a quick tour of Cairns Central YHA, including their family rooms with private bathroom.

Accommodation

Cairns Central YHA has 59 rooms including family rooms which are air-conditioned with private bathrooms. The air-conditioning and private bathroom were what sold me for our Cairns family accommodation and basically everything else what a bonus!

The family rooms are surprisingly roomy and can sleep up to six with a double bed and two sets of bunks. For our family of four, we had two spare beds (in the bottom bunks) that were quickly converted to blanket cubbies.

The WiFi is free and fast. Fast enough to stream movies on a laptop or tablet in a blanket cubby house!

Our family room had a small fridge, allowing us to self-cater easily and better control our spending.

The Location

Cairns Central YHA is located opposite the Cairns Central Shopping Centre and is a short walk from the Cairns Esplanade where you will find the family-friendly Cairns Lagoon, night market, cafes and restaurants.

Trinity Wharf, the departure point for most tours to the Great Barrier Reef, is also within walking distance.

The Cairns Lagoon is within walking distance!

The Fun Stuff

There is a pool in the centre of the rooms with pool noodles, a spa section, outdoor lounge bags and a large rubber ducky just for fun.

Located near the pool is a pool table, BBQ’s and a ‘’memory fountain’’, in which guests can write an awesome memory on a smooth stone and plonk it in the fountain.

Food and Drink

Cairns Central YHA has a large shared kitchen but due to Covid-19, you will be given your own bag of plates, bowls and cutlery on arrival. This was a welcome bonus for me!

The kitchen is well stocked with gas cookers, pots, pans, microwaves, toasters and cleaning supplies to clean up after yourself. There is a shopping centre across the road and plenty of restaurants and cafes within walking distance.

Around Cairns

Cairns is amazing! Families can enjoy the Cairns Lagoon, esplanade, night market and aquarium in the city.

Venturing further afield allows families to create new treasured memories by spending a day chasing waterfalls, getting out on the Great Barrier Reef, riding the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway or heading north to experience the Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation.

A day trip out to one of the nearby islands is a great option for families. Read all about our perfect day out visiting Green Island shortly!
