Cobb and Co camping: family fun in QLD

Have you heard of Cobb and Co Nine Mile camping grounds near Gympie yet? Well, don’t tell too many people, but this campground is a ripper for families!

I don’t know about you, but I always feel let down by the lack of space at regular caravan parks. Sleep has eluded me due to these close quarters on more than one occasion, with the neighbouring caravan’s snoring or late-night laughter keeping me awake. Space is not an issue at Cobb and Co camping grounds.

Set on a whopping 50 acres on Six Mile Creek just south of Gympie in Queensland, Cobb and Co camping grounds are family owned and as such, the whole property is designed with families in mind. I’ll tell you a bit about the camping sites, accommodation and great extras a little further below. But first, I want to explain why it’s called Cobb and Co camping grounds.

The camping ground is actually in a historic location. It’s the site of the old Cobb and Co horse change stables (hence the name) and was the first stop on the stagecoach run from Gympie to Noosa, which ran from 1878. You’ll find the remains of the old bridge that serviced the railroad and bridge workers, bullock teams and where the train passengers hopped off to catch the stagecoach to Noosa.

Luxury tents

If you don’t feel like roughing it (I totally get it), there are some luxury tents available to hire so you can rough it in comfort. There are a few different styles on offer but all are un-powered and have LED solar lighting, linen supplied, an outdoor fire area, and a verandah with bench and seating. Many also have a two-ring gas burner. No pets are allowed in the glamping tents.

Prices range from $80-$150 per night.

Would we recommend Cobb and Co camping ground to families?

Yes, absolutely! It’s not the cheapest of campsites but I’ve stayed at worse that offer a lot less and once you arrive and see all the fun stuff for the kids to do, it feels like good value for money. The outdoor activities make for some good old fashioned family fun with plenty of opportunities to relax as well.

The big downside is for those that like a powered campsite as only un-powered sites are available.
