Gardens By The Bay with kids

Gardens By The Bay is one of Singapore’s premier attractions and is suitable for kids and adults of all ages. It’s possibly one of the most family-friendly public spaces I have ever visited!

Entrance to Gardens By The Bay with your kids is free but there is a cost to enter the Flower Dome, Cloud Forest Dome and OCBC skyway, all of which are worth the expense. The SuperTree Grove can be enjoyed for free as can the nightly show.

Don’t miss SuperTree Grove and OCBC Skyway

There are 18 SuperTrees in total at Gardens By The Bay and 12 of them can be found at SuperTree Grove. The tallest one is 16 storeys high!

You really need to visit these twice, the first time in the day to sit under the shade of the canopies and really appreciate the plants in the daylight. There are more than 158,000 plants and 700 species. The second time to visit is at night when the whole SuperTree Grove comes alive with a really awesome light and sound show. Both adults and kids will love this show at Gardens By The Bay!

The OCBC Skyway is a 22-metre-high, 128-metre-long aerial walkway that connects two of the SuperTrees.

Each SuperTree is constructed from a concrete core, a steel frame trunk, planting panels and a canopy that looks like an inside-out umbrella. 11 of the SuperTrees have environmentally sustainable functions such as cooled conservatories and photovoltaic cells to harvest solar energy for lighting up the SuperTrees.

Chill out at the Cloud Forest Dome

Out of the two domes, the Cloud Forest Dome was our favourite! Expect temperatures of between 23°C to 25°C, which is a welcome relief from the humidity of Singapore.

The Cloud Forest Dome in Gardens By The Bay is a big hit for both kids and adults because the first thing you see upon entry is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. Falling majestically from 30 metres, if you stand close to it you will definitely get wet.

There are quite a few sections to the Cloud Forest Dome and plenty of learning opportunities. Once you make your way to the highest point, cloud forest vegetation usually found at around 2,000 metres above sea level is on display. Don’t worry about reaching the highest point, Singapore is well known for having plenty of elevators and escalators. This ease of access is one of the greatest things about visiting Gardens By The Bay with kids.

There are some great views of Marina Bay from up there!

Other areas of interest in the Cloud Forest Dome are the crystal mountain cave with real stalactites and stalagmites, the cloud walk and the secret garden.

Marvel at the beauty in the Flower Dome

The 2015 Guinness World Records lists the Flower Dome as the largest greenhouse in the world. It’s incredibly beautiful but hayfever sufferers beware, it’s perpetually Spring here.

The Flower Dome has an ever-changing theme but showcases exotic plants from five continents spread over nine different gardens. You can also expect temperatures of around 23ºC – 25ºC in the flower dome, making it a top spot to beat the heat in Singapore with kids at Gardens By The Bay.

Visit the Far East Organization Children’s Garden

My kids would have happily spent the whole day at the free water play area at Gardens By The Bay! In the water play area, there is both a toddler play zone for 1 to 5-year-olds and a section for 6 to 12-year-olds. This area is a chance for mum and dad to rest their feet and watch the kids run around happily under the squirting water fountains.

A cafe that sells both bento-style meals and kiddy-type snacks is on site. Toilets and change facilities are also available here.

Nearby is a rainforest tree house designed for 6 to 12-year-olds. The two tree houses are 4 metres and 7.5 metres in height and span a forest trail of 130 metres in length.

This is an amazing free attraction for kids at Gardens By The Bay.

Explore Dragonfly and Kingfisher Lakes

We explored this area as the sun went down and we were waiting for the night show to start at the SuperTree Grove. Make sure to bring your phone as there are QR codes on the signage which can be scanned to learn interesting facts about the unique lake system. Doesn’t hurt to sneak in a bit of learning for the kids when visiting Gardens By The Bay!

The boardwalk along Dragonfly Lake actually has some really great photography spots, except I don’t have any photos. It was the ONE time I left my camera with hubby and took the kids out exploring on my own. The boardwalk is only 440 metres long so it’s not hard to manage with young kids.

Admire the art around Gardens By The Bay

There are more than 40 sculptures from around the world in various spots around Gardens By The Bay. A map is available onsite or you can check one out here.

We didn’t go out of our way to find them as the kids were worn out, but we came across quite a few just strolling around Gardens By The Bay which resulted in excited squeals from the kids.

Enjoy the numerous gardens

There are numerous gardens around Gardens By The Bay but at this point, the kids were too tired. I’ve added them to our bucket list next time we visit Singapore!

Other gardens include the Heritage Gardens, the Canyon, World of Plants, Serene Garden, Bay East Garden and the Sun Pavilion.
