Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50

The accommodation options for families in Bangkok are endless, and that in itself, is stressful. Especially when you’re travelling as a family and need a safe, clean place to lay your head for the night. The Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50 is not only family-friendly, but it’s also fun, funky and quite affordable.

We fell in love with Asia Ibis Styles (the ones in Australia are a lot less appealing) when we first stayed in one a few years ago in Cambodia. This one in Bangkok just cemented what I know and love about them in Asia, affordable and family friendly!

With four main room types, families will be more comfortable in a family room with a bunk bed at Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50. Also on offer are a king bed suite, standard twin bed and standard double bed rooms. And while I can’t vouch for the latter, I can attest that the family rooms with a bunk bed provide excellent value for money.

First impressions of the Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50

First impressions of the Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50 were that of relief. After arriving very late due to two cancelled flights (thanks Jetstar), the clean, modern lobby with its bright pops of lime green and orange were a welcome site. It’s fun, funky, and has a very modern, youthful feel about it.

The staff were welcoming and we had no problems getting checked in quickly, despite it being late at night. When you head to your room, it’s hard not to notice and smile at the painted footprints on the hallway carpet and cartoon style city-scapes on the walls.

The family rooms at the Ibis Styles Bangkok

We booked a family room with a bunk bed at the Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50 and at 37m² in size, it’s very spacious with a Queen bed and a set of bunks for the kids. The bunks are sturdy with a side rail on the top. Although bed comfortableness is a personal preference, the main bed was not noticeably uncomfortable and provided a good night’s sleep.

You’ll also find air conditioning, a mini-fridge, kettle and a 107cm TV in the room. The ensuite was clean and modern but nothing special and had the standard amenities, soap, shampoo and conditioner. WiFi worked without a hitch which is always a bonus.

Dining at the Ibis Styles Bangkok

The onsite restaurant is called ‘The Terminal’ and is a nice cosy size without being too small or large. It’s styled in the same manner as the hotel itself, so it feels youthful and it’s lit quite well, with bright orange and lime green plastic stools.

We only ate a buffet breakfast here and while the quality of food was good, the selection wasn’t huge. There was a good mix of eastern and western choices as well as a few cereals and breads. You wouldn’t expect a massive buffet from a hotel of this price so it was perfectly acceptable. Everything was spotless when we dined here.

Location

This is where the Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50 is lacking. The area is by no means terrible, but there is nothing much around within walking distance in terms of attractions. I personally didn’t find this a problem as the Grab App is used widely here by taxis so its very easy to get an affordable ride within minutes.

The On Nut Sky Train station is a 1.6 kilometre walk from the Ibis Style Bangkok Sukhumvit 50 and the hotel offers a FREE Tuk-Tuk shuttle service daily. You’ll have to check the times with the staff though.

When you do head out to explore Bangkok though, make sure to read our Guide to Bangkok With Kids first so you don’t miss out on anything.

The verdict on the Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50

What we loved and what could be better

We really enjoyed the Ibis Styles Bangkok Sukhumvit 50 and would absolutely stay here again, mainly due to the lower cost, spacious room and bunks for the kids. It gave us the opportunity to chill out a bit in the room and make use of the WiFi, something that is always appreciated after a stressful day of travel.

There wasn’t much that could be better about this hotel other than the location, but I guess if the location was better, then it probably wouldn’t be on the affordable end of the scale for families.
