Introducing the Haigslea EWE-Nique Hobby Farm

My first thought when we entered the animal enclosure at Ewe Nique Hobby Farm went something like this … Oh my god, those two baby sheep are the cutest things I have ever seen in my life!

My second thought was a very guilty … Oh my god, I can never eat lamb again 🙁

They were utterly adorable! Twin lambs that had only been born that very morning were following their mum around as she attempted to do what mothers of all kinds do …. fuel up on food while the little ones underfoot demanded her constant attention.

The little lambs eventually got tired of harassing mum and laid down in a woolly heap under a shaded area. Thankfully, they were close enough that we could watch their adorable antics!

What to expect ….

As the name suggests, the Ewe Nique Hobby Farm in rural Ipswich offers a unique outing for families. A hand washing station is available on-site and bookings are essential so that Dave and Penny can keep numbers manageable. This allows visitors to practice social distancing and have a Ewe-Nique experience.

Families can get up close and personal with a variety of friendly farm animals. Expect to feed and pet sheep, alpacas, lambs, goats, geese and chickens!

When you first arrive at Ewe Nique Hobby Farm, you will most likely be greeted by Penny as you enter. She will take your coffee, snacks and drink orders on the way in. This is also where you can pick up a small bucket of carrots and grain to feed the animals.

Such a gentle creature!

Families can then head over to a charming undercover area with tables, chairs and cloth-covered hay bales. Farmer Dave gives a run-down of what to expect and you will then be allowed to take your buckets into the enclosed feeding area to feed and pet Ewe Nique’s furry, feathered and woolly residents.

During the school holidays, kids can take home seedlings from Dave and Penny’s small plant nursery. Kids can pot them up at home and try their own little hands at farming.

Although kids of all ages (including adults) will enjoy interacting with the farm animals, the experience is particularly awesome for families with younger kids!
