Review of Long Beach Resort on Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam

“Mummy, will you take me in the pool?” asked Ripley (3.5 years) for about the tenth time. Normally, this is kind of annoying. However, we were on the tail end of our Vietnam trip, it was uncomfortably hot and we all felt like doing nothing but hanging out at the resort. It didn’t take long to twist my arm.

I felt guilty for flying somewhere only to hang out at the resort, but it was just so damn nice! Plus, the Phu Quoc Island beach didn’t live up to my expectations but the resort itself exceeded it so the resort pool was our main go-to for swimming.

We fell into a comfortable routine of sightseeing in the morning and relaxing at Long Beach Resort on Phu Quoc in the afternoon and evening.

The rooms

There are two types of rooms at Long Beach Resort on Phu Quoc, a modern wing and an ancient wing.

The modern wing is closer to the beach and is exactly as the name suggests. We stayed in a modern family deluxe and loved it. The bathroom was a decent size, there was plenty of space in the actual room and there was a cute little balcony. The shower was large enough for myself and two kids without feeling squished.

The Ancient wing at Long Beach Resort on Phu Quoc is a lot more expensive but very VERY beautiful. The exterior is designed to give a feeling of a traditional village with fish ponds and greenery, but the inside is pure luxury. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before with wooden bathtubs, brass fittings and minimalist antique styling. I would stay here in a heartbeat if we were to come back again.

The staff

The staff at Long Beach Resort on Phu Quoc went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable.  Most of the staff spoke great English and if they couldn’t, they quickly found someone who could.

Like everywhere else in Vietnam, the kids were welcomed and fawned over by the waitresses.

The restaurant

There are a few dining options at Long Beach Resort on Phu Quoc. Choose from a restaurant, a beach bar and also room service.  We tried all of them! Every single meal we ordered was superb, even simple dishes. We didn’t have any problems finding something for our fussy eater and fresh fruit was always available.

The beach bar was happy to serve our meals on the beach where it was easier to manage the kids and hubby was pretty happy when he realised alcohol was taxed differently in Vietnam. For the price of one glass of Jack Daniels back home, he was given a whole bottle here.

Other facilities

Long Beach Resort has a decent size swimming pool, as well as a mini toddler-size pool right beside it. There is also a luxury spa on site that offers different style treatments and massages. Although, the massages were more gentle and relaxing than remedial.

Would I recommend Long Beach Resort on Phu Quoc to other families?

Yes, I would.  Despite the few negative reviews on trip adviser (which were mainly complaints about staff not speaking enough English, which we found no problems with), I found this resort to be absolutely fantastic.  The staff were friendly and helpful, the resort grounds were maintained well and the rooms were large and clean.  We had a relaxing time at this resort!
