Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur Review: Spacious Rooms and Pool Time in Bali

โ€ข

We stayed at Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur earlier this year as part of our Intrepid Bali Family Tour. With our accommodation organised for us, it wasnโ€™t somewhere I had personally chosen, but first impressions were good.

The landscaped grounds were beautifully kept, the pool looked inviting, and the restaurants turned out to be excellent. Itโ€™s a larger hotel, with space to host meetings and events, and a different feel from the smaller, family-run properties I tend to gravitate towards.

While it wouldnโ€™t be my pick for a boutique Bali escape, Iโ€™d happily recommend it as a family base in Sanur. Hereโ€™s what we thought of the rooms, food and facilities.

Where is Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur?

Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur is around three blocks back from Sanurโ€™s family-friendly beaches. We found it easy enough to walk to the beachfront, shops and restaurants, which meant we didnโ€™t need to organise transport every time we wanted to head out.

Being within walking distance of the beach gave us options beyond the hotel pool, while the beachfront restaurants offered plenty of choice when it came to meals.

The hotel isnโ€™t directly on the beach, so youโ€™ll need to factor in that walk if beachfront accommodation is high on your wish list. For us, the location worked well.

Like most tourist areas in Bali, taxis are readily available for longer trips or those occasions when the heat makes walking less appealing.

Our rooms at Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur

Our Intrepid tour included two Premier Rooms beside each other: one with a queen-size bed for the adults and another with two single beds for the kids.

The rooms were spacious, with enough room for our luggage without feeling as though we were constantly stepping around bags. Each had an ensuite, a work table and a window seat, which was a nice spot to sit without having to perch on the bed.

There wasnโ€™t a kitchen, although we had a kettle for making tea and coffee. These were straightforward hotel rooms rather than self-contained accommodation, but the extra space made them comfortable for our stay.

Iโ€™m still a little on the fence about the bright green feature wall. Itโ€™s a matter of personal taste, though, rather than something that affected our experience.

Would I book the same rooms again?

If I were booking independently, the two-bedroom family suite would be my first choice.

We didnโ€™t stay in the family suite, so I canโ€™t offer a firsthand review, but the photos online look great. The hotel lists it as a 135-square-metre suite with a separate living room and dining area, a balcony overlooking the pool, and two bedrooms with their own ensuites. Thereโ€™s a king-size bed in the main bedroom and twin beds in the second.

If youโ€™re considering two rooms instead, confirm whether they interconnect. Rooms beside each other donโ€™t necessarily have an internal connecting door, which can make a big difference when travelling with younger children.

The swimming pool was a highlight

The pool was one of the best parts of Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur for our family.

Itโ€™s a long, freeform pool surrounded by landscaped gardens, with a volleyball net set up at one end and loungers for relaxing. The layout gave it a lovely holiday feel and it was somewhere the kids could enjoy themselves.

The poolside restaurant was another plus. Having somewhere to eat close by made it easy to spend time around the pool without needing to pack up and head elsewhere for a meal.

For our family, swimming was the main attraction within the hotel, and the pool was a strong reason to enjoy some downtime between outings.

What about a kidsโ€™ club?

With a tween and a teen, my kids have outgrown kids’ clubs. The hotel advertises complimentary access to Camp Splash at its sister property, Prime Plaza Suites Sanur. This is a separate property, so the facilities arenโ€™t within Prime Plaza Hotel itself.

Camp Splash includes childrenโ€™s pools, a 30-metre waterslide, a playground and indoor games. Check transport arrangements and the current supervision rules before visiting; the published rules state that there are no lifeguards and that children under six and children who cannot swim need an accompanying adult.

Dining at Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur

We thought the meals at Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur were excellent. Having good food available within the hotel made things easy, particularly when we wanted to stay close to the pool or keep the evening simple.

There was a childrenโ€™s menu, which is always useful when travelling as a family. Breakfast was a buffet with both Western and Indonesian offerings, giving us plenty of choice to start the day.

The hotelโ€™s restaurants include Sanur Harum and Cafรฉ Komodo. We particularly appreciated the poolside dining setting, with the gardens and water making it a pleasant place to spend time.

There are also restaurants within walking distance, including along the beachfront, so you can easily mix hotel meals with eating out around Sanur.

Staff and service

The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

That welcoming service contributed to our positive impression of the hotel. Despite being a larger property, it still felt friendly, and we had no major complaints about our experience.

Is Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur good value for families?

Our accommodation was included in the Intrepid tour, so I canโ€™t judge value against a standalone nightly rate that we paid. What I can say is that if youโ€™re looking for a budget Bali stay, this wouldnโ€™t be my starting point. The appeal here is the combination of spacious accommodation, attractive grounds, a great pool and good restaurants.

If youโ€™re booking independently, compare the total price of two rooms with the two-bedroom family suite. Itโ€™s also worth checking whether breakfast is included, as that can make a difference to the overall cost for a family.

What we liked and what to consider

Our favourite things about Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur were the pool, the quality of the meals and the beautifully maintained gardens. The roomy Premier Rooms and friendly staff added to an enjoyable stay.

There wasnโ€™t anything major to complain about. My main reservation comes down to the style of accommodation I personally prefer: a smaller, family-run hotel with more of a boutique feel.

The other things to weigh up are the walk to the beach and your room arrangement. Both are worth considering before booking, especially with younger children.

Would we recommend Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur for families?

Yes, Iโ€™d recommend Prime Plaza Hotel Sanur as a base for a family holiday in Sanur.

It would particularly suit families who enjoy spending time around the pool, appreciate having good restaurants on site and want spacious rooms within walking distance of the beach.

If I were booking again, Iโ€™d look at the two-bedroom family suite first. Our neighbouring Premier Rooms gave us plenty of space, but the suiteโ€™s layout looks better suited to keeping the family together.

Although I usually lean towards smaller properties, we enjoyed our stay here. The pool, gardens, meals and welcoming staff gave us plenty to like.
