A holiday to Hawaii with kids is incredibly easy and enjoyable. The modern city, mild climate and beautiful beaches make it an ideal getaway for families.
NOTE – Until we get a chance to head back to Hawaii and visit the other beautiful islands, this page’s main focus is Oahu!
Honolulu is a modern city that I found comparable with the Gold Coast in Australia. Anything you could possibly need for yourself and the kids is available here.
I prefer the views of mountains and nature to city building, so I really enjoyed getting out of town and exploring the many different swimming spots in Oahu.
We based ourselves in Waikiki, staying in a private rental right next door to the Hilton. Close to the yacht harbour, Hilton lagoon and Friday night fireworks; I don’t think we could have found a better location for the price.
Carting baby equipment around Hawaii with kids isn’t an issue here either! Did you know you can hire baby equipment in Oahu?
Anything you need for babies and young kids can be hired at www.paradisebabyco.com. They deliver and pick-up to your hotel/apartment for free.

Great Places to Visit on Your Hawaii Holidays With Kids
Ala Moana Beach Park
Ala Moana Beach Park is a free public park close to Waikiki Beach. It’s perfect for younger due to the clear and calm water. I actually liked it a lot better than Waikiki beach.
Waimea Falls
Waimea Falls is located on the North Shore in the lovely Waimea Valley. There is an entrance fee however it’s definitely worth it!
The grounds are maintained beautifully and there is a lot of culturally interesting things on offer. Snack shop and facilities are also available.
When you get to the falls, there is a lifeguard on duty as well as life jackets if you wish to use them.
Hanauma Bay State Park
Hanauma Bay is a must see when visiting Hawaii with kids and a great opportunity for beginner snorkellers. Unfortunately, the visibility wasn’t the best when we visited.
It’s an incredibly picturesque area to spend the morning, although expect crowds so its best to get in early! There is a snack bar, gift shop and toilets here. Car parking is limited.
The Windward Coast
I thought all of the beaches on the Windward Coast were beautiful. There is plenty of sand for the younger kids who aren’t quite ready for ocean swimming with waves yet. Hire a car or take a bus and go exploring on your own!
Ko Olina Lagoons
The Ko Olina Lagoons are definitely worth a visit. They are four white-sand lagoons with beautifully kept surrounds that are free and open to the public.
If you are not staying right next door at one of the resorts, you will need to catch a bus or hire a car to get there. It’s hard to find a park so get in early. This is frustrating if you aren’t first in best dressed but great for keeping the crowds to a minimum.
For next time …
The next time I visit, I will definitely skip the island of Oahu and head on over to some of the other islands for less crowds and more beautiful natural scenery.

Choose from 1 – 7 day cards and visit as many of the 34 available attractions and scenic spots as you want. It’s so much easier to do things at your own pace when travelling with kids!
Flights
Find a great flight deal using I Want That Flight. Hint – travelling outside of school holiday and in off-peak times will nearly halve the cost.
Accommodation
We stayed in a private rental in Waikiki which we booked direct with the owners via email. If you need something bigger or in a different location, find a great deal using bookings.com .
Car Rental
Get a great deal on car rental by comparing across rental agencies on the DiscoverCars website.
Honolulu is the perfect island to take kids to. There’s tons of kid friendly activities ranging from exploring the underwater world to flying down a huge water slide into a pool.
