Sea Life Melbourne: You can now go behind the scenes at Jelly Lab
Sea Life Melbourne has launched a great new experience for visitors and it’s particularly awesome for families. If you haven’t guessed by the title, it’s a behind-the-scenes tour of their Jelly Lab.
Until now, visitors have only been able to peek through the glass as the aquarists team tend to the blooms of beautiful (and sometimes dangerous) jellyfish. But now, you can be the one behind the glass!
What you’ll get to do behind the scenes
Don a lab coat for some real hands-on experience inside the Sea Life Melbourne laboratory which is home to no less than six species of jellyfish. Feed live jellyfish while learning about the fascinating differences between the species and what’s involved in the breeding process.
“Sea Life Melbourne Aquarium is home to six species of jellyfish all with unique characteristics. This brand-new experience is the only one of its kind in Australia and allows visitors to safely get up close with blue blubbers, upside-down jellies, white-spotted jellies, lions mane jellies, mauve stingers and moon jellies, and learn what it takes to breed and care for these beautiful creatures,” said Patrick Noble, Curatorial Displays Supervisor at Sea Life.
The what, where and when of the new Jelly Lab encounter
The 35-minute Jelly Lab experience at Sea Life runs three times a day and is available for guests aged five years and over for an additional $25 per person. Because the Jelly Lab is a real working laboratory, tickets are limited to six people per tour and pre-bookings are essential.
