Looking for a luxury hotel in Ho Chi Minh City? Try the Hotel Grand Saigon

By the time we got to Ho Chi Minh City for our luxury hotel stay, I had been in Vietnam for a little over two weeks and I was yet to order a bowl of iconic Pho. Declaring it a crime against Vietnam travel, I marched us all downstairs and around the block come dinner time to Pho 24, a franchised restaurant specialising in you guessed it, Pho.

Although my franchised Pho was pretty decent, it didn’t compare to the amazing spring rolls I had ordered earlier within the luxury of the Hotel Grand Saigon. In fact, the food at this luxury stay in Ho Chi Minh city was in general, superior to most of the meals we had eaten in the two weeks leading up to this point. And that’s saying a lot because as you probably already know, Vietnam food is delicious.

Of course, the rooftop bar with amazing city views may have added to the charm!

As you can tell, I was sold by the food in this hotel but food alone does not make a great hotel and this luxury hotel stay in Ho Chi Minh city certainly has some other great features.

The rooms

We stayed in a deluxe room in the luxury wing. The room was a standard size and very clean with well looked after facilities.  Of utmost enjoyment was the bathroom, which was particularly large and lovely with marble features and a bath.

We were given an old fashioned but clean bassinet to use.  However, like usual the kids would not go near it and we ended up using it to store our bags. Both kids ended up with us in the oversized King bed.

The deluxe room in the luxury wing is the most affordable option but both the ancient and luxury wing have larger rooms and suites which would be more comfortable for a family. Especially a family with older kids who need more space and their own bed to sleep in.

The Location

Housed in a restored colonial building, Hotel Grand Saigon boasts a top location in District 1 in Ho Chi Minh. Just a short stroll to the Saigon River and Opera House, the Hotel Grand Saigon is also within a 10-minute drive to many popular attractions in the city, including Ho Chi Minh City Hall, Fine Arts Museum and Reunification Palace. Tan Son Nhat International Airport is a convenient 30-minute drive away.

For those up for a shopping spree, the Union Square Shopping Mall is only 500-metres away.

Eating and drinking

The meals were expensive for Ho Chi Minh City but this is a luxury International Hotel so it really wasn’t a surprise. All of the meals here were of a high standard and there are no less than five restaurants/bars to choose from.

I have eaten at numerous buffet breakfasts and I can honestly say that this is one of the best I have ever experienced. Why? Well for starters, it was huge. But more importantly, there was a diverse variety of foods on offer so if you need a little comfort from home, you’ll find it here.

The staff

Whilst certainly not unfriendly, the staff were not as attentive at this hotel as they were at others around Vietnam. It was the first and only hotel in Vietnam that they didn’t go out of their way to interact with the kids.

Other facilities

There is a gambling room with pokies, fitness centre, pool and a concierge service.

Would I recommend this luxury hotel in Ho Chi Minh City to others?

Yes, I would recommend this hotel to others due to its great location and dining options. It’s a really nice hotel but the one downside is that it’s a little on the pricey side when compared with other luxury hotels and the level of services and facilities on offer.
