The Best Family Accommodation in Wonderful Rarotonga
… And It’s NOT a Brand Name Resort
“Mum, look we can jump from one bed to the other! This is awesome!” the kids yelled, as they checked out their room in our family accommodation in Rarotonga.
Ok, so the kids have completely different ideas on what makes accommodation great. They are right about one thing though, this place is awesome.
One of the ways we reduce costs when travelling is to rent a self-contained apartment or a house. When compared with brand name resorts, the cost is usually significantly less with the added bonus of affordable meals as we have access to a kitchen.
Well, we hit the jackpot and found the best family accommodation in Rarotonga during our first week in the Cook Islands. Spending nearly a week at the White House Villa in Rarotonga was divine. It has all the comfort of home but it’s better, because well …. this is the Cook Islands!

The Best Family Accommodation in Rarotonga Went Something Like This!
The yard was lined with coconuts trees, and the large grassy area was lush and green. What else do you do with a two-year-old and a five-year-old; you invent your own game of pre-dinner coconut lawn bowls. The only thing we had to watch out for was the handsome rooster and his gaggle of female followers that would wander freely into the yard from next door.
We soon fixed this problem! Mr Five happily drained a coconut with a straw, and the chickens happily feasted on the remaining coconut flesh. It seems like a waste of good coconut, but trust me, there are so many coconuts that you couldn’t possibly eat them all.
Why is The White House Villa the Best Family Accommodation in Rarotonga?
The White House Villa is hands down, one of the easiest places we have ever stayed with kids. It has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a complete kitchen, and an awesome undercover outside dining area that includes beach loungers. Best of all, it’s a lot cheaper than staying in an expensive resort and you don’t have to fork out money for eating out.
Did I mention that the property also has a pool? The owners, Brent and Eve live in the upstairs section of the White House Apartments (not to be confused with the Villa where we stayed) on the other side of the pool. The properties are separated by a fence for privacy and the grounds are beautifully maintained.
Despite all of these features, the absolute highlight of staying at the White House Villa, is actually the location. It’s only a 100-metre stroll down a quiet tree-lined street to what we believe, is one of the most beautiful beaches on Rarotonga. The sand is white, the water is aqua, and there are splats of coral that make for great snorkelling with the kids. There is also enough sand that you can still go swimming!
I found Aroa Beach to be even better than Rarotonga’s much-acclaimed Muri beach. The proximity of this stunning beach is definitely the clincher when it comes to declaring this place the best family accommodation in Rarotonga!
