Ipswich family travel guide

Nestled in the heart of South East Queensland, Ipswich is an underrated city brimming with history, culture, natural beauty and family-friendly things to do. Located just 40 kilometres west of Brisbane, it offers a perfect blend of urban convenience and rural charm, making it an ideal family travel destination.

When is the best time to visit Ipswich for family travel?

Given its location in sunny Queensland, there is really no ‘bad’ time to travel to Ipswich for a family holiday. However, the autumn months from March to May and spring months from September to November are particularly pleasant. During these seasons, the weather is mild – perfect for outdoor activities and exploring the city’s attractions.

Budgeting for your family travel in Ipswich

Accommodation options in Ipswich are fairly average priced. They’re no where near as expensive as Sydney but not as cheap as a more rural region. I suggest choosing one or two bucket list items (for e.g. hot air balloon, bell tent picnic or smash rooms), and then take advantage of free and low-cost attractions to make the most out of your Ipswich family travel.

Additional resources

With its close proximity to Brisbane, historical charm and sheer number of things to see and do, Ipswich is a fantastic destination for families, particularly those looking for a city break without the chaos of the capital. Whether you’re exploring the cultural landmarks, taking a picnic in a bell tent, enjoying the outdoors or visiting for a festival, Ipswich has something that everyone can enjoy.
